A must read - but it's a movie too!
I read The Singularity Is Near back in 2005 and must admit, this book changed my life forever, in a good way.
Downside outweighs upside
Summary: Your brain will be stuffed with knowledge you were too lazy to learn on your own, your body will be maintained and kept healthy despite your bad habits and choices, and then one day the bots will tire of you and destroy the entire earth's biomass in a matter of days and, with it, human existence.

Technological optimism for the rest of us
Kurzweil is not a scientist, and scientists have found plenty to quibble about with this book; but it's much more readable and enjoyable than most of what scientists write, and really explains why techs such as mind uploading and utility fog matter to the average user.
Faith in Technology
Ray Kurzweil has done a lot of good work.
Worth reading if you're into this stuff, but since it's published in 2006, his predictions are quite dated
An interesting read, but as of 2015 it's quite dated with Kurzweil's predictions not having "come true.
